Frequently Asked Questions

How does an electronic cigarette work?

The micro-technologies utilized in producing an electronic cigarette are incredibly innovative. As air passes through the flavor cartridge it is detected by an internal atomizer. A water vapor is produced and tiny droplets of nicotine are injected into the vapor. The created mist/vapor is delivered to the user with the same feel as a traditional cigarette. However, the vapor does not contain carbon monoxide, tar, and hundreds of other harmful substances produced by burning tobacco.

Getting the most out of your lithium-ion e-cigarette batteries

We frequently get questions about e-cig batteries, how long they last and the best way to use them. Here are 4 tips on how to get the most out of your batteries.

1. After the first charge, our batteries can fully deplete a refill cartridge because they’re 280 mAh (milliampere-hour) batteries. Most of our competitors use 90-180 mAh batteries, which need recharging more often.

2. Like any battery, the harder it works without rest, the shorter the lifespan. We recommend you rotate between 2 batteries. This gives each battery rest time and will leave you with a spare if one goes down or if you forget to recharge.

3. It’s important to use our chargers and adaptors with your batteries. We’ve seen customers have problems when using adaptors from their phones or other devices. Some are OK, but others seem to shorten the life of e-cig batteries.

4. Have you noticed the battery flashing? It might not need recharging. The battery flashes 2 times if you’re inhaling too hard and 10 times if it needs a charge.

We hope these tips will help you get full battery life and the most enjoyment out of your e-cigarettes! Remember, you also get a lifetime warranty on our batteries and free disposal of your old ones (just mail them to us at Smoke In Style, PO Box 525, Lake Jackson, TX 77566).

Cartomizers vs. atomizers refill cartridges have a built-in atomizer. This is why we call it a “cartomizer.” This conveniently makes our electronic cigarette a simple two-piece system (1 battery + 1 cartomizer). Every refill cartridge has a new atomizer inside, guaranteeing proper operation. Conversely, an e-cigarette that utilizes a separate atomizer would have a third component, and we didn’t want to burden our busy customers with something else to keep track of.

Another benefit to our one-piece cartomizer is that a re-usable atomizer needs regular cleaning and will burn out at some point, requiring you to keep a spare on hand at all times. This is the biggest complaint among e-cig users. Our cartomizer just makes sense!

What is the cost difference between e-cigarettes and traditional cigarettes?

You’ll enjoy significant savings! Compare the average cost of cigarettes at $5-$7 per pack to a refill cartridge at only $2.50 each. And one cartridge lasts about as long as a pack of regular cigarettes (approx. 250 puffs). Usually consumers pay more when switching to a healthier product, not less, so this is yet another reason to switch!

Can I really smoke them in more places?

Absolutely YES! E-cigarettes are quickly gaining universal acceptance and it’s only a matter of time before they are more commonplace than traditional cigarettes. When smoking your e-cigs in public places where smoking is prohibited, it’s a good idea to choose a style that is not tan and white like a real cigarette.’s array of colored e-cigs are not only stylish, but easily distinguishable from tobacco cigarettes.

What are the health concerns?

One possible health concern is that e-cigarettes may provide a gateway for nonsmokers, especially the young, to begin smoking. Because e-cigs do mimic real cigarettes, obviously this may actually keep smokers smoking longer. Also, smokers who switch to e-cigs may smoke more, thereby increasing nicotine intake, to take advantage of the lower cost and the perception of healthfulness.

No question about it, nicotine is an addictive drug. That’s why, as a responsible retailer, we post this warning on our website:

WARNING: This product is not intended for use by persons under legal smoking age, nonsmokers, women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or persons with or at risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or who are taking medicine for depression or asthma. This product contains nicotine. If you are allergic to nicotine, propylene glycol, or any combination of inhalants, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have a heart condition, diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma, consult your physician before using any electronic cigarette/cigar/pipe products. Discontinue use and consult a physician if you experience nicotine misuse symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, weakness, and rapid heartbeat.

Of course, there is a dramatic difference between the amount of chemicals and cancer-causing agents found in traditional cigarettes vs. e-cigarettes.

Another benefit that should be taken into account is that because e-cigs output vapor rather than smoke, secondhand smoke is not even possible.

Many e-cig smokers report a reduction in coughing and increased ability to exercise along with an improved sense of taste and smell.

What do doctors say about electronic cigarettes?

This is a statement by the American Association of Public Health Physicians regarding the regulation of e-cigarettes (excerpt):

“AAPHP favors a permissive approach to E-cigarettes because the possibility exists to save the lives of four million of the eight million current adult American smokers who will otherwise die of a tobacco-related illness over the next twenty years.

“…harm is not caused by the nicotine, but by toxic products of combustion. A cigarette smoker can reduce his or her risk of future tobacco-related death by 98% or better by switching to a low-risk smokeless tobacco product. He or she could cut that risk by 99.9% or better by switching to a nicotine-only delivery product like one of the pharmaceutical products or E-cigarettes.

“Experience suggests that E-cigarettes may be more acceptable to smokers than the currently available pharmaceutical alternatives. A smoker can secure almost all the health benefits of quitting if he or she transitions to an E-cigarette.

“E-cigarettes deliver the same nicotine found in pharmaceutical products, with no more contamination by toxic substances than the pharmaceutical products already approved by FDA.”   Click here to read entire document
